A New Heart (and Kidney!) for Mike Hargett

Want to Help?  You Can ...
While Mike was in LA waiting for and receiving his heart transplant, all fundraising money was donated through the National Foundation for Transplants and went through their stringent reimbursement process. We remain grateful for all the support they provided to the family before, during and after the heart transplant, and Mike used all the funds in that account by the time he returned to Oregon in August 2016. LA living was tremendously expensive.

On October 21, 2016, we started a new GoFundMe page to raise money for the Hargett/Hall family to help with lost wages, rental housing, food, basic living expenses, and other costs associated with his long-term medical care and restrictions from returning to work yet. We anticipate this will be relatively short-term help (under a year?) until Mike and his mother can both go back to work, but in the meantime his family will need to raise at least $1,000 each month to meet their basic expenses, and we'll be fundraising to help with the living donor's lost wages, too.

OHSU performed the kidney transplant here in Portland on October 31, 2017, which kept the family's living expenses reasonable and is great because their biggest support system is here. It will still take awhile for the Hargett/Hall family to be self-sufficient, but we're getting closer!

Please note that GoFundMe donations are not tax-deductible for the donors, but it will give their family much more flexibility to keep up with their housing and basic necessities.

Mike set up a separate GoFundMe account for Alicia to help replace lost wages for her single-income family as she recovers from her selfless organ donation, as well as to give her something extra to have a date with her husband after her healing process.
